Welcome Debbie Hyke to Energenecs

Debbie Hyke recently joined the Energenecs tech sales team serving the northwest side of Wisconsin from Madison on up. Debbie is the granddaughter of cheesemakers and farmers and grew up in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She earned two degrees, first majoring in drawing and painting at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design followed by a degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She spent the bulk of her working career at the Envirex office in Waukesha. We asked her a few questions about her experiences in the industry.

What attracted you to the water industry?

Milwaukee and the surrounding area is a hub for the water treatment industry. I enjoy everything based around the environment and the inhabitants in it. Water treatment is essential to healthy communities and healthy living.

What is your work background?

For engineering work I started by joining the Co-op program at UWM. It is a great place to get your start. I worked for Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik and Associates out of Mequon at that time. This opportunity provided learning on a roadway construction project as well as survey, technical drawing, water resources/hydraulics and water treatment project work for local municipalities. After completing my Civil/Environmental degree I worked for Envirex out of Waukesha, WI. I worked mainly in biological processes and in learning the business of water treatment equipment.

I enjoy solving problems and helping treatment plants clean their water. I am very happy to be working for Energenecs serving customers and helping to solve the needs of their cities and industries.

What did you do at Envirex?

I worked for 25+ years at Envirex and enjoyed every minute of it. I started working as a process and application engineer. I also worked as a bid manager, a manager in the order execution team, as well as in sales and aftermarket.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy everything that is complicated!

What was the most interesting job you ever had?

The most unusual job was working as a stained glass artist after Art School in Milwaukee. I designed and built stained glass windows and small art pieces as well as doing restoration work on old window/art glass pieces. I traveled and worked in all parts of the Milwaukee and surrounding area doing this work.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Going for a walk or to the dog parks with my two terrier mixes. I also like to do remodeling work on my home. I was a Wisconsin resident my entire life until recently. I moved to St Paul Minnesota and live in an adorable pink house near the state fairgrounds and Como Park. My dogs and I like to visit the Como Zoo resident wolves on our walks at night. I have four grown children who still keep me running.

I’m really excited about joining Energenecs, it’s a great group!
