Energenecs Welcomes Nick Johnston

Energences recently hired Nick Johnston as a project manager. We asked Nick about his role on the Energenecs team.

Where did you go to school?

I went to MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering). I didn’t have a clear goal for what I wanted to do in the industry. But I came across Energenecs at a career fair. So that’s where I was introduced to them and liked what I heard.

How did you get into engineering?

My initial interest actually came from the TV show, Mythbusters, a science entertainment program about two special effects experts who set out to methodically bust urban legends in each episode by testing theories to prove or disprove what is real and what is truly urban myth. I was interested in a lot of stuff Mythbusters did and my high school offered Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses that focus on STEM, which I took throughout high school.

What type of projects are you working on now for Energenecs?

I have quite a few! My latest is a pump station control panel and I’ve been helping out with other projects as needed including Huber fine screens, RTUs and MCCs.

What do you enjoy about the job, so far?

It’s nice to finally get to apply my skills and actually work and see the progress throughout the project. I like being able to design some of these control panels, which is something that I enjoy doing.

Are you from the area?

I am from Oconomowoc, which is about 40 minutes west of Milwaukee. I would say it’s really nice. We are pretty close to many interesting places.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to read and play video games, which is something that I got a lot more into during college. It gave me the chance to meet and become friends with people in different states because we are able to talk online. I’m also in a softball league that I joined last year after my sister’s boyfriend invited me to join since they were short on players.
