Energenecs Uncovers Ransomware Attack
in Wisconsin Wastewater Treatment Plant

Energenecs recently uncovered a ransomware attack at a wastewater treatment plant, who was running their SCADA system using Windows 7. This is just another reminder that the threat is real, still quite active, and local, not just an article in the news. Energenecs continues to strongly recommend using Windows 10.

Systems Using Windows 7 and Earlier
are at a Greater Risk for Viruses and Malware

According to Microsoft “As of January 14, 2020, your computer running Windows 7 will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, software updates, or security updates/fixes. While you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware.”

Energenecs Can Assist

If you are running anything less than Windows 10, Energenecs highly recommends scheduling an upgrade and getting into the queue now, rather than delay and risk being compromised. Nick Crevcoure, Brian Akason or Jared Feider can provide a quote, so you can get into the budget, or better yet, run through as an emergency, which it truly is.
